Book Review: The story of Lone Pine, Gallipoli

As many of our children will observe Remembrance Day today at schools across Australia and the world, I felt it was timely in this centenary year of the beginning of WW1, to recommend a book on the subject of war.

It is based on the true story of the Battle of Lone Pine in Gallipoli, August 1915.

Written with reverance, we feel a Mother’s deep loss, and the symbolism of three pine tree saplings, representing her three sons. One tree still survives today at the Australian War Memorial, standing strong & weathering many storms.

The illustrations by Sebastion Ciaffaglione capture time and place, with beauty and poignancy.

Lest we forget.
